Undertook the degree for engineering in Algeria and specialized in Geology, with various courses and training seminars subsequently in the United States ((Colorado, Texas and Dallas), France and England.

After completing his degree, Eng. Abílio worked in Congeral as a Survey Geologist for the french company TOTAL. Entered into SONANGOL in 1982, and assumed various managerial roles such as: Chief of Geology Division and Director of Prospecting and Research, while simultaneously carrying out the functions of President of the Commission of Operations of Concessionaries in Cabinda (CHEVRON and TEXACO) and Soyo (TOTAL), until the date of his nomination in 1993 for the position of Director General of Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção SARL. In 1999 he is nominated as an Administrator of SONANGOL E.P. through the decree from the Council of Ministers n.º20/99 of August 20 published in D.R. I Série n.º 34, a position he holds presently.

On August 20, 2002 his mandate was renewed for 3 years with the Decree n.º 73/02 from the Council of Ministers.
